Summary

Reviews

“The Beasties” caters to those with a more gruesome inclination. After moving to an isolated country home, Doug and his kid sister Colette discover a race of strange creatures living in a maze of tunnels under the forest. These beasties have a connection to the forest, and logging operations are causing them to wither. So they are at war with the loggers, from whom they amputate body parts to sew on to their own bodies. Doug is horrified when the headstrong Colette decides to help them, but soon he is drawn in as well, which leads to a shocking conclusion. Though not particularly graphic or gory, the whole concept is sure to excite kids who think this sort of thing is cool. -- Matt Berman, The New Orleans Times-Picayune and Children's Book Award Annual’‘
